High spatial resolution in Lidar applications require low-jitter detectors and short laser pulses for extracting distance information from time-of-flight measurements. We recently received a custom configured femtosecond fiber laser system from Menlo Systems that should allow us to achieve sub-1 mm distance resolution when used with our high timing accuracy superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) and electronic signal processing solutions from our partners at Swabian Instruments. A pulse picking option will enable Lidar applications with large dynamic range. We are excited to try out first high-resolution ranging experiments!
